Turning an idea into a plan
Pictures are a good way to start a conversation, but the right choice for your home depends on the space itself. A paving style that looks perfect in a photo may need a different colour or texture to suit your brickwork, or a different layout to work with the slope of the garden and the way rainwater drains.
When you have a few ideas in mind, note what you like about each one: the colour, the pattern, the edging, the steps or the overall feel. Measure the rough size of the area and take a few photos of it. That gives us enough to talk through options on the phone before we visit to look at levels, access and drainage and give you a quote.
If you are weighing up materials, our guides explain the choices in plain English:
- Block Paving vs Resin vs Tarmac: Which Driveway Is Best?
- Porcelain vs Indian Sandstone Patio: Which Should You Choose?
- Landscaping Cost: What Sets the Price of a Garden Project
- Garden Wall Cost: What Affects the Price of a Brick Wall
Look at the details, not just the whole picture
For a driveway, consider the border as well as the centre. Edging defines the parking surface, while a paving pattern changes how the entrance looks beside the house. Think about where vehicles need to sit and how people will reach the door. A photograph cannot show the preparation underneath, so use the driveway guide alongside the image rather than choosing by appearance alone.
For a patio, compare the paving with neighbouring walls and garden paths. Natural stone, porcelain and concrete have different appearances and upkeep needs. Steps or a retaining wall may be relevant when the seating area is at a different level from the rest of the garden. The useful question is which features suit your setting, not whether the pictured layout can be copied exactly.
Interior examples serve a different purpose. A room shows the wall and ceiling finish, whereas a building improvement may involve alterations as well as the visible result. Note which element you are interested in when contacting us. These photographs do not establish the condition of your property, the work required or a price; those need a discussion about your actual project.
