Bricklaying for Worcester Homes

Careful brickwork, built to last.

BUILT AROUND YOUR HOME

Bricklaying with care and attention.

Whether it is a garden wall, steps or part of a wider project, our bricklaying helps bring structure and character to your property.

Brickwork has to look right and stand up to the weather. Good bricklaying depends on solid foundations, consistent mortar joints, the right bricks for the job and proper detailing at the top and bottom of a wall so water does not sit in it.

We build garden walls, brick steps and brickwork as part of wider projects such as patios, driveways and building work, and we can carry out repairs and improvements to existing brickwork. Matching new bricks to old is easier when you can see samples side by side, so we will talk this through when we visit.

Repointing and brickwork repairs

Plenty of brick walls do not need rebuilding at all. When the mortar joints have crumbled or worn back but the bricks themselves are sound, raking out the old mortar and repointing restores the wall's weather protection and appearance. The work is careful rather than quick: joints are raked to an even depth without chipping brick edges, cleaned, dampened and refilled with a mortar that suits the bricks and matches the existing colour and joint profile.

Repointing is often combined with small repairs, such as replacing cracked or frost-damaged bricks or resetting a loose coping on a garden wall. Our guide to repointing brickwork explains the signs to look for, how mortar is matched and what affects the price.

Retaining walls and steps

In sloping gardens, brickwork often has to hold back soil as well as look good. A retaining wall creates level ground for a lawn or patio, and steps link one level to the next. These walls carry more load than a boundary wall, so they need a deeper foundation, drainage behind them and a coping that keeps water out of the top.

We build brick retaining walls and steps as part of wider landscaping and patio work, so the levels, drainage and finishes are planned together. Our guide to retaining walls compares brick, block and sleeper options and explains when a taller wall needs an engineer's design.
